What happens when the venue Wi-Fi drops
Illustrative sample
list downloaded
Every scanner holds the attendee list before the first guest arrives.
token-only QR
The scan is checked against the list on the device. Nothing about the attendee travels in the code.
3 queued
Each check-in is stored on the device with the time it happened, not the time it uploads.
09:41 · 0 queued
The queue uploads on its own. Counts and reports catch up without anyone re-scanning.
The attendee list is downloaded before doors open, so the desk never waits for the network. Check-ins queue on the device and sync automatically once the connection returns — on the staff app and on the desktop client.

Free with every plan. Staff join an event with a short code you approve — they do not need a BagEvent account of their own.
Key features
Scan with the phone camera
Point the camera at the ticket and the result card names the person straight away. Continuous scanning has a 1.5-second cooldown so one code is not read twice as the next person steps up, and the QR itself carries only an opaque token — nothing about the attendee can be read off it by another device.
Keeps working without a network
The event is downloaded to the phone before doors open: attendees, orders, and the answers your registration form collected. Scanning, search, and check-in then run against that local copy. Check-ins queue on the device and upload when the connection returns, and an interrupted download resumes where it stopped rather than starting over.
Search when the code will not scan
A cracked screen, a ticket left at the hotel, a code that will not read — search by name, company, or job title against the copy on the device and check the person in by hand. It works with no network because the search never leaves the phone.
As many phones as you have staff
Staff join a device with a short code that you approve from your own account, so they never need a login of their own and you can revoke one phone without touching anyone else. Every phone reports into the same live count, and a code already used at another door is caught rather than waved through.
Badges through the phone's print service
A badge can be sent to AirPrint or the Android print service when a printer is on the same network. Each one takes a tap to confirm, so this is the fallback for a small room rather than the way to badge a queue — badge-on-arrival at volume belongs on the desktop client, which prints directly from the desk.
Notifications that do not interrupt a scan
Event notifications arrive by push and open the right screen when tapped. Anything that arrives while the app is in front of you is a banner only — nothing navigates away while someone is standing at the door waiting to be let in.
How it works
- 1
Install and join the event
Staff install the app and enter the short code you approve from your account. No extra seats, no shared password.
- 2
Download the list before doors open
Pull the attendees and their registration answers onto the phone while you still have a network you trust.
- 3
Scan, or search and admit
Queued check-ins upload on their own once the venue network comes back.
Frequently asked questions
No. It is included with every plan, and staff who only scan do not use up team seats — they join a device with a short code you approve rather than getting an account of their own.
Scanning, check-in, and search across the whole downloaded list. Check-ins queue on the phone and upload in one pass when the connection returns. Nothing is discarded quietly: anything that fails to upload stays in the queue with the reason attached.
Both people are let through — neither phone can know about the other at that moment, and holding someone at the door on a guess is worse. When they reconnect, the second scan is raised as a conflict with the ticket, the time, and the check-in point, and you decide whether to keep the first record or flag it for review. It is recorded rather than silently resolved.
It can send a badge to AirPrint or the Android print service, which needs a tap per badge. That is enough for a small room, not for a queue. If you want a badge in someone's hand as they arrive, use the desktop client — it prints directly from the desk, including offline.
Yes. A phone can be pointed at a collection point instead of the main door — access control for a room or a zone, which counts people in and out, or info capture for something like a lunch voucher. The app only offers what that point is allowed to do, and it says what actually happened: checked in, recorded, or collected.
Android on Google Play and iPhone on the App Store. Staff join an event with a short code you approve — they do not need their own BagEvent account. On either platform the camera is used for scanning QR codes only — frames are processed on the device and are never uploaded or stored — and the copy of the attendee list held on the phone is stored in an encrypted database.
No — it is the same download. Which screens you get depends on the role each event gave you: door staff check people in, stand staff scan visitors into their own lead list, and attendees carry their badge. Somebody with more than one role switches between them inside the app.
When there is a staffed desk with a badge printer, when you need to check in or print for a whole group in one pass, or when several lanes share printers. Both run on the same attendee list and report into the same live count, so you can use them at the same event.

- What happens to check-in when the venue Wi-Fi fails?Four different things vendors mean by offline check-in, what actually fails at a venue, and what still breaks even when scanning keeps working.
- How do you run on-site check-in for a conference across multiple hotels?A staffed check-in lane sustains about 200 people an hour. Sizing lanes, spreading the arrival peak, training volunteers, and the eight things that go wrong.
